What are your options?
Johnson Controls believe that any decisions regarding building systems and services should take a holistic approach giving due consideration to lifetime costs, efficiency and usage.To take a strategic approach, each piece of affected equipment should be individually assessed to understand the business risk should the equipment be inoperable. From there building owners need to decide between three basic approaches:
- Replace - replace equipment with one using natural refrigerant or HFC refrigerant
- Convert – convert equipment, using a retro fill or alternative refrigerant
- Leave as-is - It must be stressed that this option is only viable if there is a guaranteed stock of HCFCs or the equipment is viewed as not being business critical
- From January 1, 2010 only reclaimed or recycled HCFC can be use to service or maintain your equipment. If you plan to keep your equipment running, then plan to secure your refrigerant supply.
- From January 1, 2015 during service or maintenance of HCFC plants it will not be possible to top-up your plant with refrigerant. If the plant is not leaking, you will be able to keep it running but be careful of the risk in case of an accidental leak as your plant will then have to be retrofitted or replaced.
